To celebrate the National Ballet of Canada’s 60th anniversary, the company embarked on a massive exhibition with a collection of 60 unique tutus for 60 years. Named The Tutu Project , designers and artists gathered at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts last night for the opening of the exhibit, where we finally able to see fellow creations , such as a black feather creation by Giles Deacon (on loan from the English National Ballet) to a “Tutu Cozy” by the Hudson’s Bay Company (complete with the Canadian retailer’s signature stripes and matching mittens!).
My tutu is inspired by the famous bronze sculpture Unique Forms of Continuity in Space (1913) by Umberto Boccioni, one of my favourite artists from the futurist period. I am so proud and honored to be part of this amazing project!
If you are in Toronto please come check it out!

Hells to the yes! After my many posts about how much I love Tarzan Dan’s dance photography, I finally ( finally finally ) got to work with the man himself! Besides being my lovely fashionista friend Caitlins’s hubby, Dan is also a famous radio DJ and entertainer extraordinaire. Also he is super cool and really fun to work with!
enjoy these beautiful images Tarzan Dan shot, and check out his website, TDfoto.ca.

I was very excited to style my very own photo shoot today! Above is dancer and model Julia Sedwick, modelling a bespoke tutu made by me to celebrate the National Ballet of Canada’s 60th anniversary. The tutu will be displayed on the National Ballet’s website and later on at The Design Exchange. Special thanks to my Husband who took these beautiful shots on location in downtown Toronto.
Stay tuned …. I’m currently designing my first couture collection which will be released in 2012.

So I’ve been working super hard for a month on this project, and now it is almost finished! The National Ballet of Canada is presenting a Tutu exhibition to celebrate their 60th anniversary, and my design was chosen to be part of the exhibition. The tutu will be on display on a virtual museum via The National Ballet of Canada’s website, and at The For Seasons Opera House in Toronto next summer, so come and check it out!
Inspired by the 1913 sculpture ”Unique Forms of Continuity in Space“ by Umburto Boccioni, the concept of my tutu reflects the futurist movement. The tutu evokes an aerodynamic fluidity by using exaggerated folds, angles, and volumes, and creates a sculptural architectural-like form.
Stay tuned for more pics…

A few months ago I was fortunate enough to work with fashion designer Michelle Watson of MICHI to create the set for the new MICHI SS2012 look book. Watson, a Canadian native, created MICHI to fill the gap between provocative, glamorous lingerie and comfortable, utilitarian athletic wear. We shot on location at The Extension Room‘s brand new home in downtown Toronto,(a boutique fitness studio that combines classical ballet technique with contemporary athletic conditioning) owned by founder of The Extension Method, Jennifer Nichols.
Creating the set was an amazing experience, and collaborating with talented photographer Gian Carlo Drueco and Waston was a dream come true- especially when Fashion Television turned up to shoot our shoot!
Thanks so much to everybody involved! (including the two cats that came to hang.)
